Roku, Apple TV, or Fire TV Which Offers The Most Free Content

Roku, Apple TV, or Fire TV Heres Which Offers The Most Free Content

Cord Cutters looking for a Media Streamer Today Have Plenty of Great Options

Roku Vs Fire TV, Apple TV for Most Free Content

Roku, Apple TV, Android, and Fire TV Stick are all great choices when shopping for a new media streamer They all provide a similar function, to make it easy to stream and watch both free and paid online content on the Internet.

Content is organized inside apps and channels and presented in an easy-to-navigate format to watch right on your television screen.

Content Outside the Official App Stores

When choosing a media player, a lot depends on what you want to do with it. If you want a simple media streamer and only want to watch mostly paid content from the big providers like Netflix, Hulu, HBO Max or Apple TV, Fire TV, or Roku are all fine.

If you want to use a Web browser go with Android, Nvidia SHIELD, or Fire TV. Both Roku nor Apple TV don't have browsers nor do they really want them on their platform. They prefer owners of these devices to only watch content from their app store. This is how they earn the most money either from ads, or contracts with content providers.

IPTV apps are also not available on Roku. But Apple TV, Fire TV, and Android media players offer many official apps for streaming IPTV content.

Both Roku and Apple TV work great with AirPlay to watch online content from your phone. Android and Fire TV streamers don't yet support AirPlay, but they offer Chromecast and mirroring which does the same thing with an Android phone or tablet.

Which Media Player Is Best Overall?

Good - Fire TV/Android
For accessing content outside "Official Sources" there is no better media streamer than an Android TV box, Chromecast with Android TV, Nvidia SHIELD or Fire TV. Because these devices are not locked down as much as Roku and to a lesser degree Apple TV it's easy to watch any type of content from a wide range of online sources.
Only 15% of Android Users Never Sideloaded an App

Better - Roku
For ease of use, tons of content, and a seasoned well built media player, Roku is incredible. Especially it's higher-end models like the Ultra that are durable, reliable, and work very nicely. Free content is also a bonus and it's widely available with these ad-supported Free Roku Channels.

Roku is now also building its own House Brand television sets. These were typically outsourced in the past to low-end Chinese TV manufacturers like TCL. Roku took over the manufacturing process and is now going to build its own Roku TV line.
While Roku used to be the number one go-to streamer for watching adult movies, it slipped down a notch when they eliminated the widespread use of private channels. This means popular private Roku Adult channels have also been eliminated from Roku and were replaced by a website varient. Now they can be watched using AirPlay, Chromecast, or Mirroring. This means they can be all accessed the same way on pretty much every media streaming platform.

Best - Apple TV 4K
For overall build quality, ease of use, and a less restricted App store the Apple TV 4K is one of today's best media players money can buy. It also has fewer ads than Roku, Android, and Fire TV.

AirPlay works flawlessly, and mirroring takes over on sites that AirPlay does not play nicely with.

Because this media streamer is built so well, it will no doubt outlast many other brands. So even though you will end up paying a little more upfront, the savings on a less expensive media streamer will quickly evaporate when they need to be replaced much sooner or more often.

Free content is also available on Apple TV. While Roku may have more free ad-supported channels. Apple's support for IPTV apps gives users a wide range of free live TV content fround on free playlists.
