Only 15% of Android Users Never Sideloaded an App
Sideloading Bypasses App Store Restrictions
In a recent poll performed by Android Authority, 15% of Android users never sideloaded an app.
Sideloading is the act of installing an app directly on an Android Phone, Tablet, or media streamer bypassing the Google Play Store. Android unlike Apple and Roku which lock out sideloading on its devices allows you to install apps not permitted in official app stores.
Why Do Most Android Users Choose to Sideload Apps
Channels and apps are banned from Google, Roku, and Apple App stores for many reasons. Many pirate TV streaming apps are banned because they link to online content which allows newer movies and TV shows to be watched without monthly subscription fees or ads.
Apps that block advertisements or that steal personal information are also banned from official app stores.
XXX, apps that contain Adult Content are also not allowed to be published in Official App Stores.
If you plan on sideloading apps by downloading and installing them directly on your Android devices you will lose protection from malware. The App Stores typically scan files to make sure they don't contain a virus or other hidden trojans that can infect your device.
But you can also easily scan any downloaded Android apk files using the free VirusTotal site. There you can upload any apps first to the VirusTotal site and it will scan the files to verify they are safe.
Most sideloaded files are safe, but it's good practice to run them through the Virus scanner tool first.
Sideloading apps on Android is a primary driver of sales. When both Apple and Roku eliminated sideloading from their devices, the popularity of their streaming TV devices declined.

Apple has relented a little, and its App Store now offers a few more questionable IPTV apps.
AirPlay is also an amazing tool to stream online content. Both Roku and Apple TV media streamers support AirPlay and mirroring.
Sideloaded files on Android are still very popular because sideloading is not actively being blocked on this platform.
