If your Library pays for Kanopy, you can use it to watch TV shows and movies without the expensive monthly fees.
While you won't find the latest blockbuster movies on Kanopy, it's very nice for watching highly rated older movies. This channel has been compared to the Criterion Channel as both share very similar content.
Where Kanopy shines, is for watching "Best Movies of All Time." If you have several of these on your must-watch list you've been wanting to see, chances are you'll find several to watch Free with your Library card.
Simple Hack to Increase Your Monthly Viewing Time on Kanopy
Since you are limited on how much you can stream each month on Kanopy, here's a simple little hack that can extend your watch time each month.
A Reddit user posted this tip and it works well for a little extra viewing time. This is how it works:
If you have Kanopy and have unused views at the end of the month, start watching something with each. You get 3 days to finish and that crosses the month line (you won't lose them once the month ends because you did start viewing something). Worst case you don't finish them and you lost the time it took to start each one.
Is Kanopy Worth Watching?
Watching Kanopy content you'll enjoy depends a lot on what you like. If you're only into mainstream blockbusters (best to look elsewhere). There is not much newer mainstream content available on Kanopy. But if you enjoy watching independent and/or foreign content, Kanopy is a hidden gem.
Best of all if your Libray partners with them, everything is free with your library card. It depends on your viewing tastes. Some really enjoy the content, while others looking for the latest movies and TV shows may end up disappointed.
