How to Turn Off YouTube Autoplay Videos on Android TV

YouTube Recently Introduced Autoplay Videos on Android TV

If the new YouTube Autoplay Video Feature is driving you nuts, you can easily turn this off

YouTube quietly rolled out a new autoplay video feature on Android TV. And not everyone is a fan of this new feature, if you can even call it that.

When you finish a video you want to watch, autoplay automatically ques up a snippet and begins to play other videos on your home screen whenever you scroll by.

While this may help serve YouTube by allowing it do stream more ads or get more views, it does little for many users. And for some it is a downright annoying feature they may not like to see at all on their Android TV media player.

So if you no longer want YouTube autoplay burning up extra bandwidth and racking up more data usage against your monthly data caps. The good news is it's easy to disable autoplay from your Android PC, mobile device or PC.

Here's How to Turn Off YouTube Autoplay on Android TV

This feature, once it rolls out to your Google or Android TV streaming device, will be turned on by default. This means you'll need to make some changes to your devices settings.

To turn off autoplay, go to your settings menu and scroll down and look for “Previews with Sound” and then disable this.

Autoplay won't start if you're connected to a mobile network and have not used your device for 30 minutes. On a computer with Wi-Fi, Autoplay will stop automatically after four hours. This helps prevent long Autoplay sessions in case you forget to close the window and leave YouTube up on your screen.

To Turn Autoplay off on Computer

In your YouTube video player, click settings. Turn off Autoplay by using the toggle switch. Unfortunately, YouTube removed this feature from Chrome, and Chrome based browsers like Brave. So your only option is to make use of a 3rd party extension. Just add the Unhook Next Video Stopper Chrome extension.

Turn Off The Ad Videos on the Android TV Home Screen

The Android TV Home screen was once a clean user interface to launch apps. In a recent update, it horrified many SHIELD owners that this was changed to a revolving billboard to advertise content on channels that a user did not even subscribe to. And while it's not as easy to turn off as YouTube autoplay, this too can be disabled.

Your Nvidia SHIELD Home screen can once again look like it always did. But you will lose some functionality for some Google features. Click here, and we'll show you how to turn this off.
