Nvidia SHIELD Rumors 2021
Here are the rumors swirling around the ever Popular Nvidia SHIELD TV Streamer
While some of these are more facts than rumors it's what's currently happening with the Nvidia SHIELD
1. Some HBO Max users have reported that titles with Dolby Atmos support have stopped outputting Dolby Atmos audio and instead only output DD+ 5.1. This is true and Nvidia is currently looking into it and has contacted HBO to check into their Android app to fix this.
2. Nvidia SHIELD won't receive the Android TV 10.0 update. This is also a fact, and there is a good reason for it. We posted about this a while back and here's why Android TV OS version 10.0 will not be coming to the Nvidia SHIELD.
3. Will Nvidia release a new SHIELD in 2021? As much as we can only hope to see new updated media streamers from Nvidia this year. There is still no information available from a reliable source. Until Nvidia releases a new Switch Pro or Switch 2 that transitions them away from the Tegra CPU, we probably won't see any other hardware updates this year.
4. Nvidia is stopping production of the Tegra X1 'Mariko' SoC that powers the Nintendo Switch, 2019 Nvidia Shield. This rumor first appeared in a Bloomberg post from an unnamed source at Nvidia which stated the company may stop production of of the Tegra X1 by the end of this year.
The new Nvidia Switch 2 and Pro will feature a new updated processor. This also means there will be no more current model SHIELDs being built once their supply of chips run out and instead they may put their efforts behind a new SHIELD model which may enable AV1 video decoding and HDMI 2.1.
5. SHIELD Owners were Upset about Ads from the Latest Update on their SHIELD. Also mostly true, when the update from Google first rolled out on the Nvidia SHIELD, it changed the look of the home screen. Instead of your apps along the top, it now look more like a Fire TV, with the upper third portion of the home screen is taken up with previews of content to some paid channels which users may not even have subscribed to.
Now that SHIELD users have had time to adjust to this change, it may be less upsetting to some than when it first rolled out. But if it still annoys you, here's how you can make your SHIELD look like it used to and turn this screen hogging feature off for good.
