New GoPro HERO4 HD Cameras Released
Check out this hot new line of HERO4 GoPro HD Cameras - Their Best Cameras Yet!
With little fanfare one of our favorite HD movie cameras manufactures who built their products for capturing life in the extreme has launched an entirely new line of cameras. Their new Black and Silver line of GoPro HERO4 HD cameras offers some exciting new features and may prove to be one of their most popular and advanced cameras to date.
While we all love watching great HD streaming content with our media streamers, little credit is given to the cameras that make we watch possible. Early on when we built our mkvXstream Roku channel, we featured some video clips from GoPro.
GoPro's marketing plan was rather brilliant, strap their HD Hero cameras onto the helmets of some of the most extreme sports athletes and daredevils in the world. They could then promote their Hero Cameras by sharing videos of death defying feats and extreme sports.
It worked well for them and GoPro is now as well known as some of the larger more established HD camera manufacturers. GoPro cameras have gone and filmed in places where their competitors cameras probably never will.
We are excited that the next generation of HD cameras from GoPro is here, with their newest model line the HERO4 both in Silver and Black making its debut. Before we go into much more detail and cover specs and features, lets take a look at their latest HD video filmed entirely with a GoPro Hero4.

In addition to the GoPro HERO 4 Black and Silver editions, GoPro also released a budget model the $129 US, £80.89 UK HERO. The battery can't be swapped as it is permanently fixed in place. It does record at 1080p at 30fps, and 720p at 60fps. This model will be covered more extensively in a later article. For now, compare the specs of the two GoPro premium top of the line extreme HD cameras in the comparison chart below.

New Battery Size
GoPro changed the battery configuration on their latest model. Now the battery slides in and out easier from the bottom rather than from the back. That's the good news, the bad news is they now use different size batteries. This means you will need to buy a few extras as your extra batteries for prior models will longer work.
Dual Battery Charger
New for the GoPro Hero4 is a dual battery charger that will charge both batteries at once.
Blackout Housing
In addition to the clear protective housing GoPro offers a blacked out housing. This one gives the camera a nice high end luxury look and would be the one we would go with. In addition, it will probably does a much better job of hiding scratches and scuffs and can easily be touched up with a black sharpie.
No touch screen on the GoPro HERO4 Black
We wanted to mention this in case you missed it in the comparison chart. The GoPro Hero4 Black which is their most expensive model does not come with a touch screen. This has cause a bit of a stir and some confusion from GoPro fans.
The official reason for eliminating the touch screen is because the Hero4 Black can record at 4K Ultra High Resolution (UHD), it dumps the battery faster and generates more heat. In fact they were concerned it was too much heat for the touch screen display so they decided not to add it to the Hero4 Black edition.
Since extra heat means faster discharge time. This is another good reason to get extra batteries if you plan on doing a lot of filming in 4K UHD. At $19 each the price of additional batteries is not too terribly expensive especially if you can afford a GoPro HERO4 Black.
