Roku Rolls Out More Ads for Ad-Free Viewers
More ads are in the future for Cord Cutters
A while back we predicted streaming would become more and more like Cable TV, with ads becoming more prevalent as profits shrink. Not to disappoint, Roku did exactly that by dedicating a special place right on the Home Screen to especially target and reach those who typically pay more to not watch ads.
Ads Equal Larger Profits
You can't blame Roku for trying to increase its profits. They make very little if anything at all on the hardware side of the business. They have priced their streaming devices very competitively and it has paid off. Roku has one of the largest market shares of any streaming company.
Advertisements are what makes them money. Love them or hate them ads will continue to play a larger part on Roku as well as on other streaming TV platforms.
Currently, Apple has the least amount of ads on their Apple TV streamer.
The Roku Home Screen To Become a Billboard For More Ads
The plan is to reach those who currently pay extra to watch content ad-free. By placing ads on the Roku Home screen it will reach these viewers before they even start streaming content. You can read more about these proposed changes to Roku on Ad Exchange.
