Recent Update Breaks Fire TV Remote

After a Software Update many Fire TV Television Users Began Experiencing Remote Detection Issues

If your Fire TV Remote is Acting Wonky, Here's the Fix

After a recent software update, Fire TV users who are using 3rd party universal remotes were being greeted with a troubling message on their Fire TV screens. It say their remotes are no longer detected. And it also occurs when using HDMI-CES or when using an ECHO device.

A a Fire TV Television remote has many other features which can control many aspects of the TV itself. So this warning message does not affect the remotes that come with a Fire TV nor is it happening as frequently with the Fire TV boxes or Streaming Sticks. But some users are reporting seeing the message on these devices with the factory remote as well.

So beginning last year, Amazon began flashing a message on the screen which showed the remote control being used was no longer detected, and offered a solution on how to properly pair the remote to your Amazon Fire TV television. But it can be annoying because it seems to pop up often and won't go away on its own.

Another factor is that the TV remote uses both Bluetooth, which needs to pair with the TV and controls certain function, but it also uses IR which is needed when the television is turned off. So while certain functions which use IR would still work, any that relied on Bluetooth would no longer work when pairing is lost.

Even if you no longer use the remote that came with your TV, you will need it for the following. Because, the warning message is referring to the original factory remote that lost pairing and not the universal or 3rd party remote that is currently being used. And the only way to get rid of this annoying message is to once again pair your factory remote to your Amazon Fire TV television.

Another problem when using a 3rd party remote is if it sets around unused for a long period of time it disconnects itself. And the message pops up. Usually at this point simply pressing any button on the remote will reactivate it and remove the nag screen. Otherwise, try the steps below to make the Remote Detection warning message go away.

How to Pair a Fire TV Remote when It's No Longer Detected

If you see a message on your TV screen, that says "We Can't Detect Your Remote" perform the following recommended steps,

1. Place the remote close to your TV.
2. On your remote, press the Home button and hold it down for 10 seconds. It's the button that looks like a tiny house.
3. Put brand new batteries into your remote. Be sure to use new batteries, not the ones that have been rolling around your junk drawer for the past ten years.
4. Unplug the power cord from your television, wait at least 5 seconds and plug it back in.
5. If this did not work, then there is one last step you can try to once again pair the remote to the TV.

If the above steps won't work, do this to reset your Amazon Fire TV remote. At the same time, hold all three of these buttons down for ten seconds. Amazon Fire TV Remote Not Detected
