Vudu 4K Won't Work on a SHIELD TV Box And For How Long Nobody Knows

After the Recent PIE Update on the Nvidia SHIELD The VUDU App Will No Longer Support 4K UHD Content

VUDU is not the only app that broke with the recent update. Here is what Nvidia had to say.

We’re aware of a 4K playback issue impacting a small number of apps on SHIELD TV devices and are working on a solution.. In most of these cases, users can cast these movies to SHIELD in 4K using built-in Chromecast. The top 4K providers, including Netflix, YouTube and Prime Video, are not affected.

A Reddit user reached out to VUDU asking why 4K UHD content would no longer play on the Nvidia SHIELD.

Here was their response:

"Nvidia has made us aware of an UHD issue that will affect Vudu Nvidia Shield users and prevent playback in UHD quality. Due to this, UHD playback on Nvidia Shield devices will be limited to HDX quality starting at 3pm PT today. Playback on other Vudu-enabled devices will not be affected, and you will be able to watch your collection in 4K UHD on non-Nvidia Shield devices.

We understand this is frustrating and inconvenient but rest assured that you will still have the UHD quality you purchased and will be able to watch in UHD when the issue is resolved by.

If the Nvidia Shield is your only media streamer and you are sitting on a lot of purchased VUDU content buying a low cost Roku may not be a bad idea.

Their entry level Roku Premiere 4K boxes are only $30 on sale. Otherwise, you could always pick up a Fire TV or Apple TV both which continue to work with VUDU 4K content.

Another option is to sit tight and be patient, and eventually Nvidia and VUDU may come up with a solution.

It's unfortunate this happened, and we can't imagine as popular as the Nvidia Shield is as a media streamer, that VUDU and Nvidia will want to leave it this way for very long.
