ROKU Permanently Slashes the Price of Their Streaming Stick+
Roku's stock took a bit of a tumble when Amazon announced they were coming out with a new Free IMDb Streaming Channel that will only be available for Fire TV owners. This channel will now compete head to head with Roku's own Free Roku Channel." Both channels will offer a large selection of Free ad-supported movies and TV series.
Roku has dominated the media streaming market for some time now. Surpassing industry giants like Apple, Google, and Amazon by selling media streamers that appealed to the masses. Their plan for building a media streamer that was platform agnostic seemed to pay off as people flocked to buy their media streamers over those offered by their much larger competitors.
Amazon has also relentlessly been trying to gain market share with their media streamers and is now nipping at Roku's heels. This last quarter Amazon's Fire TVs have even outsold Roku. While Roku still has bragging rights for most hours streamed on their platform, this may not last forever.
Amazon recently also came out with a brand new $49.99 4K Streaming Stick that offers new audio and video features that no Roku media streamers yet can match. You can learn more about the new 4K Fire TV Stick model here.
Roku fired back, by permanently lowering the price of their 4K Roku Streaming Stick+ from $69.99 to $59.99 now. They also dropped the price on their regular Roku Streaming Stick to $39.99 which is on sale now.
We like the Roku Streaming Stick+ model for it's enhanced 802.11ac WiFi which is not found on the Express or Premiere Roku models.
The new Fire Stick also offers 802.11ac WiFi as well.
Amazon has been relentless in their pursuit for world media streaming domination and they will keep pushing their media streamers to the forefront.
Hopefully, we'll see Roku continue to innovate and keep coming up with great new features that will keep them ahead of the pack.
