Amazon and IMDb Free Fire TV Channel

Soon Fire TV Owners Can Also Watch FREE Ad-Supported TV on the Fire TV Channel

Amazon which owns IMDb one of the largest movie and TV show review sites are partnering up together to bring us a free ad-supported content channel like Roku and Apple TV.

In other news, Amazon will also be adding more ads to its Twitch TV platform. Also including ads on its previously paid tier which did not contain ads.

According to Gizmodo Amazon is continuing to expand it's empire and looks like now television streaming ads is their next target for world domination. This is a lucrative business, and even though currently very little of Amazon's huge 200 billion dollars a year income is generated by ads, this is not a segment they plan on ignoring for very much longer.

No More Pirate Apps?

What remains to be seen is how many Fire TV owners will actually use their devices to watch free ad-supported content. Many people who bought a Fire TV Stick or Fire TV media streamer did so to watch Free pirated content from apps like Kodi or the now-defunct Terrarium TV app which lives on as a modified version.

While some of these apps contain ads, ad-free versions can be freely found online where someone has removed the ads from the app.

Once the new Amazon channel rolls out, you have to wonder if Amazon will be more diligent in blocking pirate apps from their platform the way Roku did earlier in the year.

They did remove most IPTV players from their Amazon store yet these and other apps can still easily be sideloaded onto their devices by simply unchecking a box in system settings.

The Rise of Anti-Ads Apps and Services

One thing is certain, as cord cutters continue to drop conventional cable TV in favor of streaming TV, ads will become more and more common across all media streamers in the coming years. Especially as box makers try and tap into this lucrative market to boost their profits.

Unlike cable TV where our only choice was to use a DVR to skip the ads, digital streaming TV also offers ways to block these ads that are even cheaper and easier. This will spawn another industry in itself to block ads on streaming media players.
