Top 5 Favorite Roku Channels
Five Roku channels you won't want to miss!
Roku's long list of outstanding and impressive public and private channels, made it especially hard to come up with only five winners. Here are our top picks for last year's favorites.
Amazon Instant
Amazon Instant offers users who don't have an iTunes enabled device the same ability to rent and watch movies and television shows. The great built in search feature makes it easy to find what you need and the channel is easy to navigate and very quick and responsive. They offer a small selection of free movies and shows that are easy to find by typing "free" into the search bar. Movie rentals last from 24 to 48 hours from when you first start watching. If you are a prime member it gives you access to watch over 25,000 movies and TV episodes for no extra cost outside of the annual $79 fee.
NowhereTV
For those that like local and world news on Roku, NowhereTV comes through with access to many different news channels and programs. With their large selection of news shows and sub-channels, it saves one from needing to navigate between multiple channels to find something newsworthy to watch. With it's great content and flawless playback NowhereTV has always had a warm spot in our hearts and is one of our favorite Roku Channels.
Vimeo
The Vimeo HD Channel is awesome. Finding original HD content is now easier than ever. They host independent content from all over the world! While this channel is quite similar to YouTube, they host content that is not found on YouTube in HD quality.
Netflix
Netflix was the pioneer that started the streaming revolution and brought it to the masses. Netflix is by far one of the most popular Channels on Roku. Their interface is simple and responsive. By offering the viewer suggestions based on previously watched content, along with their large selection of movies and television series all commercial free, you will never run out of great content to watch. If you have not yet tried Netflix, be sure to take advantage of their free 30 day trial.
My VideoBuzz
The VideoBuzz channel, while rather new is already a huge hit with the Roku Community. The loss of YouTube on Roku was one of the largest gripes people have about the Roku platform. VideoBuzz stepped in a with a perfect workaround that has replaced the now defunct RateRix channel. The VideoBuzz channel brings YouTube videos back to Roku and on your Television. With it's clean and simple interface it not only works with YouTube, it also works with many other popular video services. YouTube videos play great again on Roku and this is why we choose Video Buzz as one of our top five Roku Channels for 2012. ***Update earlier this year Video Buzz was taken down at the Request of Roku. Developer has since created new channel that needs to be side loaded through the Roku developer interface. Check out Twonky Beam and MyPlex for two alternatives to play YouTube videos on your Roku.
