New Boxee DVR Streamer
Walmart has officially begun selling the Boxee TV / Media Streamer. Boxee's new $98 device is smaller and will now stream over-the-air broadcast TV from ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC and more and record it to a cloud based DVR. The new for Boxee monthly charge is $9.99 for the lifetime of the device. Starting next year the monthly service charge is supposed to go up to $14.99 a month. The new streamer from Boxee is quite a bit more compact and has dual cable tuners that are QAM ready to record free unencrypted HD signal in the following eight markets to start: Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia and Washington, DC. Buyers of the new Boxee will receive credits for the first three months of Unlimited Cloud Storage DVR service, Netflix and premium grade Spotify (a digital music service that gives you access to millions of songs). New users also will receive a one time $5.99 credit for Vudu.

If you already have the prior aTV flash version installed, this update is available from your Apple TV by clicking the Manage - Extras menu.
Apple TV 3 Jailbreak May Be Near
The internet rumor mill is buzzing about a possible break through and a jailbreak for the Apple TV 3 may be in the works. This will be great news for many Apple TV 3 owners and is sure to spur sales of their $99 media streamer. It will finally open up the 3rd generation Apple TV to many more formats than the currently restricted .mp4 format. It will end the need to spend many hours converting video files to make them compatible with iTunes. With Apple's intuitive and polished interface for playing 1080P HD .mkv video files, it will finally make the Apple TV 3 a welcome addition as a media streamer.
