Stream Your Favorites from your Mac to TV - Effortlessly!
How to Use Chromecast From Your Computer
The ability to stream content directly to our television screens has revolutionized how we watch TV and listen to music at home.
Gone are the days when we were limited to just watching whatever was available through cable or satellite channels. With the advent of smart televisions, set-top boxes like Roku and AppleTV, and even game consoles such as PlayStation and Xbox, we now have access to a vast library of entertainment options that can be accessed through the internet. And while these devices offer many great features for streaming content, they don’t always provide seamless integration with other devices.
One popular method for getting digital media onto a big screen display is using Google's Chromecast HDMI dongle, which allows us to stream video and audio content straight from a web browser tab on your PC running Chrome OS.

In addition, the device provides quick shortcuts to launch mobile apps like YouTube and Netflix; so there's no need to fumble around inputting passwords via TV remote controls with this streaming device.
So how can you cast your computer screen or selected tabs from within your Web browser over to the television?

If you haven’t got one already, head online to purchase a USB 2.0-powered Chromecast adapter (there’s a newer version out there but it requires separate power). They come in different colors at varying prices based on what special offers/freebies may apply during your shopping experience (in some cases free shipping could make up the price difference so compare deals before ordering if possible.)
The physical unit should resemble the image below to ensure you receive the correct model:
Then plug one end into the TV‘s HDMI port, and place the included HDMI-to-USB cord into one of the empty USB ports provided by the TV.
If your operating system isn’t supported then feel free to look up workarounds or alternative solutions online, though the steps necessary to get up and going won’t differ much from those already provided here unless otherwise specified.

However, if everything went well, you are all set to start casting without further delay!
To initiate setup, open up your favorite Web browsing app, then enter chrome://cast in the browser address bar, and check whether your Google account’s connected devices list appears underneath a link saying something like “Pair a new device.”
Tap the button which is located near the bottom middle of the page.
Once tapped it will activate pairing mode on both your personal device and Chromecast simultaneously; once complete, follow the remaining on-screen instructions until both your Mac or PC are successfully paired. Now you thumbnail icons of your compatible casted applications appear.
As previously mentioned, clicking any icon on the above-mentioned ‘Chrome browser tab” menu takes you directly inside the applicable app. The number of compatible streaming services currently exceeds two dozen programs, including the likes of Hulu Plus Live TV, Sling TV, CBS All Access, Starz, ESPN+, Disney +, HBO Max, and more.
Viewing Desktop Images on Your TV with Chromecast
To send desktop images from the Chrome window you are viewing onto the screen attached to your Chromecast-equipped HDMI port, first, click the three vertical line menu in the upper left corner of the browser window, navigate down to the option called More Tools > Cast Device(
You’ll note a large blue button labeled Start Broadcasting: tap it and enter the code shown by your receiver (the four-digit alphanumeric code) when prompted to finish establishing the connection (if the Chromecast doesn’t ask for a confirmation code, simply press connect or similar language).
Lastly, be sure that you update your Chromecast regularly. Because electronics manufacturers often will patch bugs or improve their products with new features. To check for updates on your Chromecast enter chrome://extensions/, check for any available by clicking the Update button. If one is available, it will automatically download and update your Chromecast.
