FCC is Cracking Down on Surprise Billing on Broadband Sellers with Special Transparency Rules

Broadband providers will soon be displaying a special label as required by the food industry per the new FCC ruling. With hidden fees rampant in the broadband industry, the FCC cracked down recently. They ordered that all companies selling broadband in the U.S. must now attach a highly visible label. An example shown below from the FCC shows many similarities to a nutrition label which is a requirement on all food products.

Your Broadband Service Will Soon Come With a Nutrition Label

In a statement released by FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel:

“Our rules will require that broadband nutrition labels are fully displayed when a consumer is making a purchasing decision. That means consumers will have simple, easy-to-read facts about price, speed, data allowances, and other aspects of high-speed internet service up front."

True Cost of Broadband Exposed

With actual costs for taxes, fees, and any other expenses, often obscured when a new customer signs up for service, this is a welcome rule from the FCC. It will allow consumers to make better-informed decisions when price shopping between various providers.

Broadband Nutrion Labels to Prevent Surprise Billing

As more broadband competition comes to the marketplace, this is an important tool for consumers to use. Before signing up for service, check the label to see if you are making a healthy choice for your broadband budget.

The FCC has given large broadband companies 6-months to comply. Smaller providers have up to a year to roll out the new labels on their service.
