Two Things You Should Always Do To Your Roku Before Giving It Away
Next time you sell or give away an older Roku be sure to do these two things first
For those of us that have been with Roku for a long time now, we probably have owned several models through the years. This means we more than likely gave an older model to a friend or family member. Or maybe even sold it on eBay for a few bucks. Before you give away or sell your next Roku, here are two important things you should always do to your Roku before saying your final goodbyes.
Factory Reset Your Roku
Performing a factory reset on your old Roku is important for several reasons. Most importantly, it clears out all your personal settings which you first entered when you activated your Roku.
This lets the new owner get a factory fresh out of the box experience. It also ensures your old network settings, and other preferences that you may have adjusted to your liking won't need to be restored.
Doing a hard reset or Factory reset is not the same as a soft reset. A soft reset is like rebooting or restarting a computer.
A hard reset is like wiping the hard drive and reinstalling Windows. But with Roku, it's all automated and much easier. A hard reset will wipe out everything on your Roku and reinstall the original operating system.
This means the new owner when they set it up will also need to once again let it update to the latest Roku software.
To perform a "Roku Factory Reset" follow this official procedure recommended by Roku:
Unlinking your devices is also an important step that should be done every time you replace a Roku with a new model. This is also important for several reasons.
When your old Roku is still linked to your Roku Account online. Anytime you add a channel to your new Roku, the same channel will be added to all Roku models linked to your account.
The same is true if you remove a Roku channel. Every Roku linked to your account will have the channel deleted.

Unlink Your Prior Roku Devices
Unlinking your devices is also an important step that should be done every time you replace a Roku with a new model. This is also important for several reasons.

From the list of devices, choose the ones you no longer own and click the blue Unlink link. This will remove the device from your Roku account.
