TV Antenna Quiz Question #7 - Discover the Joy of Watching Free TV
A TV Antenna Still Gives You The Best Programming FREE!
While choosing a proper antenna is important. Equally important is choosing the right antenna cable. If you have a poor quality cable, or poor connectors improperly terminated your picture quality and TV signal can suffer.
There are several options when it comes to the type of cable to use for hooking up an antenna. RG58 and RG59 are on the lower end of the cable spectrum. And while they will work ok for very short runs, they are not what you want when hooking up an attic or roof antenna. Because they lack the shielding of the better higher quality cable like RG6 and RG11.
RG6 cable offers much better shielding so you will have much less signal loss when running from a longer distance. This makes it best for hooking up HDTVs to an antenna.
RG11 is an even thicker cable and if your antenna is very far away like on a tall tower it will provide the best signal. But its thick size makes it harder to bend and requires special tools and connectors. It's also harder to snake through walls which can make installation more difficult. But the heavier-duty construction makes this cable more suitable for direct burial.
