This Media Streamer is Number One in 2022

Roku, Fire TV and Apple TV are all Popular Media Streamers But One is Dominating Google Search Trends in 2022

Apple TV Vs Roku Vs Fire TV

When it comes to media streamers, the big three are Roku, Fire TV, and Apple TV. And while each has had its moment to shine over the past ten years, only one is outperforming the other two when it comes to searches on Google in 2022.

Google Trends is a tool that shows trending searches on the search giant over time. Looking back to the beginning it shows the popularity of these media three streamers over a longer period.

Fire TV

The Fire TV was a popular streamer for many who wanted a cheap inexpensive streaming stick to use for Kodi, or sideload other Android apps. And they sold a ton of these primarily for this reason.

The Fire TV also had its share of issues with a sluggish streaming performance which had many cord-cutters looking for more powerful Android media streamers. Their later Fire TV models were a little better and they are still very affordable. But the interface which is built for ads has turned many people off.

In 2022 the Fire TV now ranks well below Roku in Google Trends, which is a search engine tool that measures the amount of traffic a particular search term is getting on the Internet.

Roku

Roku Search Trends

Number one for many years, Roku is no longer getting the same volume of search traffic it once did. While the number one go-to media streamer for a long time, several moves by the company may have contributed to this. Their primary focus is now on pursuing ad-driven content. And shutting down private channels which included Adult Roku channels may have also had an effect.

Roku stock price which at its highest point was at $437 is now hovering near $60 a share. Some of this can be attributed to the economy, but their overly restrictive content moderation of its Channel Store may have had an effect as well since they are now one of the most restrictive media players available.

Netflix which was once a big draw for many cord-cutters and the primary reason many purchased a Roku has also lost some appeal lately. With the bad economy and their higher price, many subscribers are canceling or planning on canceling their subscriptions.

Many smart TVs now have their own app stores along with free content. Like Samsung TV+ which offers hundreds of FREE streaming TV channels. This makes it less necessary to purchase an additional media streamer.

Apple TV

Apple TV Search Trends 2022

Apple's media streamer has now overtaken both Fire TV and Roku in the number of searches on Google in 2022. One big reason is they don't have nearly as many ads on their platform compared to Roku and Fire TV.

An Apple TV is as easy to use as Roku and has a nicer more modern interface than both the Fire TV and Roku.

The Apple App Store while still restrictive to some content has several IPTV apps which many cord-cutters are looking for and can no longer find on Roku.

With the ability to sideload Kodi and hardware build quality and performance that blows the others away, it's easy to see why this media streamer is becoming more popular in 2022.

The biggest barrier that stops many from buying an Apple TV 4K is still the price. It is $50 more than a flagship Roku Ultra. But Apple builds its hardware to have a longer life span and an Apple TV will last for many years. And recently they have been offering some good discounts.
