Netflix Looking at $7-$9 for Its Ad Based Plan

To Support Sagging Subscriber Numbers and Profits Netflix Pins its Hopes on Ads

Netflx Ad Plan Cost

Ads are coming to Netflix for a lower-cost monthly streaming plan. The company is targeting a range of $7-$9 a month according to a recent report from Bloomberg.

This will be almost half as much as their more popular 1080p plan which currently is $15.49. Many Netflix subscribers are canceling expensive Netflix streaming plans, in favor of watching Free TV from an antenna. The company hopes to draw back former customers who left because of how expensive their streaming service has become.

Here's How Many Ads Netflix's Ad Based Plan Will Include

Customers who sign up for the lower-priced ad-based plan can expect to watch 4 minutes of ads per hour. But this may increase at some point as more advertisers sign on or the company would like to boost sagging profits.

If Netflix follows cable's lead, which is now cramming in even more TV commercials to make up for cord-cutting, We can expect the number of ads to increase in the future. Currently, some cable channels are now showing up to 20 minutes of ads per hour.

When Will The Netflix Ad-Based Plan Be Available?

By the end of 2022, Netflix will roll out its lower-cost plan in select markets, and by 2023 make it available in all of its markets. One thing the company hopes to avoid which is a common complaint about free streaming platforms is showing the same ad repeatedly.  In the end, this could be a good move for Netflix's bottom line.

Netflix still offers one of the nicest streaming interfaces. But their ad-based plan will now be competing against many great free streaming channels like Amazon FREEVE, which is now considered one of the top free streaming services overall.

They also have a lot more lower priced streaming services offering even better deals to content with. Like Apple TV+ which is $4.99/month and includes 4K content with no ads.

Time will tell if this will save their sagging subscription numbers, but with consumers seriously cutting back on discretionary spending it probably won't hurt.
