Apple TV as a Media Streamer Rocks
One advantage the Apple TV has over Roku and Amazon is the lack of advertisement on the platform compared to the busy ad-driven home screens on Fire TV and Roku. If they use a reasonably fast chipset in the new model, it would compete very well against Roku and Fire TV at the same price point.
Anyone that has ever owned an iPhone will instantly feel comfortable with the Apple TV interface. It's very smooth and easy to navigate between apps.
The high price of admission which is currently $179 for the 32GB 4K model, and $199 for the 64GB model is a big turn-off for many potential customers.
A lower-priced model that would sell for under $100 is an excellent move by Apple in the right direction.
Will a Lower Cost Apple TV Help Apple Gain Market Share
There was a time before Roku and Fire TV gained massive market share, Apple was the number one media streamer. For some reason, they stubbornly clung to their higher price point. But now that they implemented their own streaming TV platform with Apple TV+, a lower cost streamer would be a big advantage to help them attract more subscribers.
Apple TV+ content has been improving, and you can't beat the lower $5/month cost for 4K Streaming.
Having learned from past blunders, the Apple TV is now less locked down and restricted than Roku. While Roku keeps clamping down on their media streamer with no IPTV apps or channels to be found. And earlier this year clamped down on Private Channels. Apple TV offers nine different IPTV apps for download in their App Store.
