Donate Your Old Media Streamers and Televisions
Help those less fortunate among us with your old electronic throwaways
Every year millions of perfectly working electronic equipment end up getting discarded in landfills, to make room for the latest and greatest.
How great would it be instead of throwing away a perfectly fine media streamer, television, or other electronic equipment and giving it to someone in need instead?
Times are tougher now than they have been in a very long time. Prices are going up faster than wages can keep up with inflation. And many people are now browsing second-hand shops for bargains on used electronics. Because buying items new from big box stores, is simply out of reach from their budget.
When you donate older electronics you no longer need or use, someone else get's to enjoy them for a while longer. These may be items they can get for ridiculously low prices when found at a second-hand thrift shop or charity stores. And it could provide them with something they may have otherwise missed out on in their lives.
So when you donate your used home electronics, not only do you keep e-waste out of the landfill. It can also help enrich someone else's life.
These Are Great Places to Donate Home Electronics
Cell Phones for Soldiers - Support our troops by donating your old phones, tablets, iPods, and more. This charity will then either sell the items to refurbishers or properly dispose of them as e-waste. The proceeds are then converted to international calling cards which soldiers in distant places can use to contact their loved ones at home. They also use the money to help soldiers that find themselves in dire straits and the company will step in and offer financial assistance.
Local Animal Shelter or Humane Society - Another great place to donate to is your local animal outreach group. Check with your local shelter or Humane Society to see if they accept donations. Some use volunteers to run thrift shops where they resell these donated items and the proceeds then go to support their animal rescue efforts. Search YellowPages for local Shelter
Goodwill - Is another great resource to donate used electronics. They will sell any working items or properly dispose of them if they no longer work. The Goodwill store is a good place to find deals as well on older and sometimes current electronic items. You need to check back often though because the truly great deals go fast. Visit Goodwill.org
PickUp Please - This is a site that comes right to your door to remove unwanted electronic items. They will be sold, and the money is then used to help Vietnam Veterans. While they are only operating out of 13 States, they are very prompt and will usually show up to get your items within a day. Visit PickUp Please Website
Contact Your Local Schools - Many private and public schools will gladly accept your donations. Reach out to the local principal or school office to get routed to the right people who can accept your donations. Not all Schools can readily accept donations, so you may need to contact a few schools in different school districts which have different rules.
Don't Miss Out On Any Tax Deductions for Your Donations
Many charities or non-profits that accept donations can also give you a receipt for the value of your donation. This can then be used when filing your taxes and depending on if you itemize be used for deductions. So be sure to always ask for a receipt and save this in a file for tax time.
