OMG! Apple TV App on Android TV Leaves Users Tied Up in Knots

A Recent Change in the Apple TV App on Android TV has Users Tied up in Knots

Apple recently made a change to their AppleTV+ app on Android TV that has many freaking out

Android TV AppleTV+ App Dumps Google Play Movie Purchases

This morning's news feed was full of headlines bemoaning the demise of the AppleTV+ app on Android TV. Apparently, Apple decided to remove the ability to rent content from Google Play within their app. Only allowing users to rent content from iTunes.

Sheesh, the moaning and whining were relentless. You would think by all the complaining you could never watch any other content ever again on Android TV. That could not be further from the truth.

These were some of the headlines blasting out the Apple news

Apple TV app downgraded on Android TV / Google TV – No buying or renting films. Major downgrade for Apple's streaming app! whathifi.com (OMG this is just awful! Don't know what we are going to do now with our expensive Android TV media player. Maybe use it as a doorstop...)

Apple TV app on Android TV no longer allows rentals, purchases, or subscriptions. The app now points people towards Apple’s own products to rent, buy, or subscribe to Apple TV Plus. theverge.com (Hmmn, wonder if Google Play points users to buy content from the Roku or Apple TV+ apps?)

You Can Still Rent Content From Google Play on Android TV.

As you can see from the headlines, some bloggers really took great offense to Apple removing the ability to rent movies from Google Play from their app. Android and Apple rivalry is nothing new. Certain Android users like to jump at any chance they can to bash Apple products.

Android is a great operating system, mainly because it's more open than an Apple TV. And this is one reason many people seem to be attracted to it. Not only can you still rent movies and TV shows from Google Play. Just open the Google Play app. The app comes preloaded on every Android phone, tablet or Android TV media streamer sold. You can also watch tons of free content from apps inside and outside the Google Play Store as well.

But the Apple TV is also a very nice media streamer, and an Apple TV is one of the easiest media players to use. it's even easier to use an a lot less cluttered than Roku. It's also much easier to learn how to operate than Android.

This latest move by Apple is just a big tado over nothing. But it gives Android users another reason to bash Apple, and that always seems to bring them a little joy.

It's not the end of the world as we know it. Apple is probably just now resorting to the same tactics Google has used on other platforms like Roku and Apple TV for a long time. And yes, we can still rent movies and shows from Google Play. Or use countless other sideloaded free apps on Android TV to watch them for free.
