Hisense Will Build new Comcast XCLASS Televisons

Comcast XClass TV

Comcast is joining Amazon and Roku by selling their own house brand of smart televisions, available in the U.S. in the coming weeks.

“We’re thrilled to bring our award-winning entertainment experience to smart TVs nationwide and for the first time offer consumers inside and outside our service areas a simple way to navigate their live and on demand content, whether streaming or cable. Hisense XClass TVs are the next products in a growing portfolio built on our flexible and scalable technology platform, bringing the best innovative products – whether that’s a streaming box or a smart TV – to each territory and customer segment.”
Sam Schwartz, Chief Business Development Officer, Comcast

These new Comcast branded TV will come with a Free 12-month Peacock Premium subscription. Which is a streaming TV service based on NBC content also owned by Comcast.

In addition, these TVs will feature hundreds of streaming TV apps which can be added as well.

Initially, two models will be available. The TVs will come in two sizes. Both 43" and 50" UHD screen sizes will be available. And they will allow Comcast customers to have access to many of the same channels and apps which have been so popular on other streaming platforms.

Buy owning their own smart TV platform, it gives Comcast more leverage to promote their content front and center. Which puts them in a much stronger position than if they simply relied on their Peacock app along on other vendor's platforms.

What will be interesting is to see how much of a dent this may have in both Amazon and Roku's smart TV market share. Amazon also announced their own line of smart televisions. Which seems to be the new frontier for content providers to leverage their content to try and reach more eyeballs.

XClass is the same tech that Sky Glass uses. These are televisions which stream Sky TV content in the UK. While both televisions share similar technology, they are completely different smart TVs designed for different market segments.

Comcast 4K UHD XClass TVs from Hisense are sold in limited Walmart stores or on Walmart.com and will be available for sale later this month. The smaller 43" model will cost $298, and the larger 50" model will cost $50 more and will sell for $348.

The TV will feature Live TV apps from Comcast, Spectrum, Hulu, YouTube and more apps are expected in the future. Time will teel if the Comcast name hurts or helps promote sales of these TVs.
