Get Ready for YouTube Premium Lite

First there was YouTube Premium and Now We Have YouTube Premium Lite

We have all been there, excited to watch a new YouTube video and up pops an annoying ad.

YouTube Premium Lite

YouTube Premium was the answer for those that could not stand watching ads. Which by the way seem to be increasing more and more lately. Maybe as a not so subtile hint to almost force ad-adverse viewers to subscribe. But apparently the cost of the premium version of YouTube was prohibitive, and there were not as many takers as the company had hoped for so they are now testing YouTube Premium Lite.

Currently YouTube is testing their Premium Lite plan only in European countries. These include: Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden. USA YouTube viewers will need to wait a while longer and hopefully, they will eventually decide to offer it here in the good ol U.S.A. as well.

What Does YouTube Premium Lite Not Include?

No it does not come with a six-pack of Lite Beer. But the Lite version has trimmed off some perks that YouTube Premium Subscribers enjoy. For example, Lite subscribers won't be able to download videos for offline viewing. Or play videos in the background. Not an enormous loss because 3rd party sites can help with this.

So the reduced cost for never needing to watch another YouTube video ad, may well be worth it. If the Lite version of YouTube becomes popular in Europe, they will most likely roll it out elsewhere pretty fast.

How much Does YouTube Premium Lite Cost?

In Europe the new Lite plan is €6.99 Euros a month. This equates to $8.30/month at the current Exchange Rate. Still kind of expensive but depending on how much time you spend watching videos on YouTube it may be very much worth it.

If you are in the USA, and really want the ad-free experience, you could always set your VPN to a country on the list and subscribe. Or simply add a period after the address in your Web browser and watch ad-free.

As competition increases in TV Streaming, expect to see more companies coming up with cheaper ways to stream. Getting consumers to use your product is one thing, keeping them coming back for more month after month is something else all together. This takes creative marketing, along with the carrot of discounted pricing.
