The day of the cable TV monopoly is officially over. They had quite a long run as the only game in town for several decades. But the end is approaching fast for the cable and satellite TV industry.
The cable TV business model works great when you are the only show in town offering a service that you charge a premium for. But the minute something better comes along, many of your customers will vote to leave you behind in a heartbeat unless you can show them a good reason to stay.
Unfortunately, with a constant barrage of price increases, only a handful of channels that are worth watching and no end to the number of commercials squeezed in to an hour long show. This is no longer working for many former cable and satellite TV subscribers.
"According to a recent Pew Research Center survey of U.S. adults, "The share of Americans who say they watch television via cable or satellite has plunged from 76% in 2015 to 56% this year." The survey also found that "some 71% of those who do not use cable or satellite services say it’s because they can access the content they want online, while 69% say the cost of cable and satellite services is too high and 45% say they do not often watch TV." wealthdaily.com

Many cord cutters, frustrated with their cable TV provider have been anticipating the day streaming would out rank cable TV. It looks like this day has arrived faster than imagined and cable TV, now only a shell of what they once were, has been scrambling to adapt.
Those companies fortunate enough to also provide broadband Internet have been able to hold on to a nice chunk of their earnings. Some even dabbled in providing streaming services of their own. But with the same tired channels offered as their corded service. Their lies the problem, especially now that savvy consumers have many great streaming TV services to choose from.

Streaming TV is our future and cable TV our past. The cord cutting boom continues, until one day cable TV becomes another footnote in the history of time.
