Paramount+ to Release Films 45 Days After They Hit The Movie Theaters
Paramount+ which used to be CBS All Access Will Movies on Their Platform Sooner
How times are changing, it used to be months before a box office hit was available to be streamed from home
Paramount+ just released some news that will have a big impact on cord-cutters everywhere. During a recent investor meeting, ViacomCBS CEO Bob Bakish announced this news. With Paramount Plus we no longer need to wait the typical 4-5 months for major theatrical releases to be available for streaming or DVD.
Now in 45 days, a month and a half, streamers can watch the latest blockbuster films released on the Paramount+ and Epix platform. Other movies will be released in 3/months.
For other film studios, typical wait times are still 4-5 months. But times are changing, and with COVID more people have been avoiding movie theaters. We expect them to also eventually fall into line with these new standards. It's a matter of money. Movies unwatched in a theater mean less revenue for content producers.
Back in the early 2000s, the typical wait time for a movie released for DVD was 6-7 months. If this accelerated timeline keeps following past history, maybe in the next ten years we may see this timeline shrink even further.
What Will The Future Hold For Movie Theaters?
Now with large media streaming platforms like Roku, Apple TV, Fire TV, and Android. Millions of movie viewers are using their streaming devices to watch newer movies. It only makes sense for producers to get their content in front of wider audiences.
Movie theaters, with their high prices, no longer have the drawing power they once did. And very well could one-day disappear from the landscape just like drive-in movie theaters did years ago.
