Want a nice easy to use calling app that works on a wide range of devices? The Google Duo app is worth a look and it will soon be avaiable to use on Android TV. This will be of particular interest to Nvidia SHIELD owners.

It's a much a safer alternative to Chinese owned WeChat. Google Duo users won't need to worry about their information being spied on or turned over to the Communist Chinese Government.

Some of these type of apps from China like TikTok are in the process of being banned in the United States.

With Google Duo there is no such concern. Except for maybe being followed with targeted ads. But these can be disabled from Google settings.

Phenomenal Call Quality Downloaded this app because I have ZERO cell service in my house and apple didn’t enable WiFi calling. So instead of stepping outside in the rain or freezing weather whenever someone wanted to call me at home, Duo has solved that. Call audio is the clearest I have ever heard on a phone call, like the person is on the other side of your phone talking at your ear. I have strong WiFi so I can’t say how it would perform if WiFi is spotty. I noticed that when you are not on WiFi and take a duo call over your cell service there is a bit of a delay between accepting the call and when the caller can hear you which can lead to some confusion, but still great call quality. Very simple interface, no bells and whistles, just works, and works great.

The App does group chats either voice or video with up to 12 people. This is extra nice during these times of social distancing.

It won't use your mobile data for making voice or video calls.

Record messages in voice or video and send them to other people. You can even type out notes to send these as well.

The Google Duo app is avaialble on iOS and Android and soon will be available on Android TV platforms as well. So you can make video or voice calls directly from your Nvidia SHIELD.
