Walmart+ is the Name of What Will Likely Be Amazon Prime's Number One Competitor

Better late than never, with the launch of a new membership site named Walmart+ it will give Amazon a run for the money.

At a cost of $98/year, Walmart+ will cost a little less than Amazon Prime. Yet still offer some pretty decent perks. While it had plans to launch earlier this year, the COVID-19 pandemic pushed the launch date further back to sometime in July.

As a company, Walmart's net worth is only 1/4th that of Amazon. But they are hoping that by launching a new membership program which resembles Amazon Prime it will narrow the gap between the two companies.

At last count, Amazon has a 150 Million members worldwide. And they charge their subscribers $119/year for added perks which include free 2nd day shipping. Movies and original TV series streamed through Amazon Prime. Free digital music, ebooks and more.

Here's What Walmart+ Will Include with Their Membership

According to VOX Walmart+ Will Offer:

- They will offer unlimited same-day delivery of groceries and other goods from Walmart Supercenters
- Reserved delivery slots and open-slot notifications
- Access to Walmart’s new Express two-hour delivery offering but not unlimited usage
- Discounts at Walmart gas stations on fuel
- Special early access on certain product sales
- Scan & Go service for shoppers to quickly check out in Walmart stores without needing to wait in long lines
- Video entertainment from big media companies as a video content perk has also been discussed but nothing yet is written in stone

More perks will undoubtedly be added to sweeten the deal and encourage more people to sign-up and join. And keep paying their membership dues year after year.
