When Roku Launched Their Guide It Had All Live Channels In One Place

After complaints from many Roku TV owners who suddenly found their live over the air channels (OTA) mixed in among other OTT live streaming channels in their new Roku live channel guide. Roku reversed course and removed the OTT live channels from their guide for Roku TV models. Only these models have built-in OTA TV tuners.

The Roku guide lets you see what is playing on over a hundred live channels for up to 12 hours in advance.

According to Techhive many users complained it was too complicated to search through their OTA channels when mixed among the 100+ live channels contained in Roku's guide which is available from The Roku Channel.

This new Roku live TV guide is available as a separate tile right from within The Roku Channel.

When launched, The Roku Channel live TV guide brings up a cable TV like DVR grid guide which lists what's currently playing on a large number of free live channels available to watch.

Since there was really no way to filter the OTA channels from the other live OTT channels included from various other channels on their platform. Roku felt it best to remove the over the air channels from their guide for now.

Maybe at a later date they may add a filter so you can organize the channels according to your favorites, and once again include OTA channels once again.

Another annoying factor some users complained about is these channels would show up on their Roku with no antenna or way to tune them in. These were mostly on stand alone Roku players.

So for now it's probably best that the OTA channels have been removed. But since Roku really wants to get as many of their users as possible onto The Roku Channel we expect at some point they will be added back with a way to create a favorite lists to make them easer to find.

How to Find OTA Channels on a Roku TV

On the Roku Home Screen look for the tile that says, "Live TV." All OTA channels received from an antenna can be found there. The OTT live channels can be found on any Roku media streamer in a tile inside "The Roku Channel" which says: "Live TV Channel Guide."
