Best microSD Card For Nvidia SHIELD Adoptable Storage

Best microSD Card for NVIDIA SHIELD Adoptable Storage

The $150 SHIELD TV Stick only Comes With 8 GB of Internal Storage

While it's still the best Android device on the market the lower cost SHIELD Stick only comes with 8 GB of internal storage. But if you use a fast microSD card with the Nvidia SHIELD Adoptable Storage, you can greatly increase the size with almost no limitations.

The SHIELD Comes With Adoptable Storage And Here's How To Use It

If you see a notification in the top right side of the screen telling you your storage on the SHIELD is low. You can increase your device storage using Nvidia's Adoptable Storage function.

You will need to go into settings/device then under device choose storage.

Then plug in a fast microSD card and it will ask to format it. And then from the menu choose device storage. Once formatted it will then move any data from internal storage to the SD card. So let it do its thing. After about 15 seconds your SHIELD Device storage will be expanded from 8 GB or less of internal storage to the capacity of the SD card.

The Kingston SD card shown in the video is very fast. It's the Canvas Select Plus 256 GB microSD card from Kingston. And it's optimized for using with Android.

When you add a microSD card that meets Nvidia's specs for speed the internal storage will only be used for the OS. The SD card will then be used for all your applications, downloads, photos and other files.

This SD is a Class 10 UHS-I and has speeds of up to 100 MB. So you won't notice any lag. And besides 256 GB, they are also available in either 128 GB and 512 GB. So unless you plan on using your SHIELD to store a lot of games or Emulator ROMS. 256 GB of storage space should be plenty for most users.

So if you find your SHIELD internal storage running a little low. Don't worry, you can easily add some much needed extra space by popping a Kingston microSD card into that little SD slot on your Nvidia SHIELD Stick or Pro.
