Roku OS 9.2 Adds Popup Ads to Roku TVs

Roku TVs are super affordable and they now come with Free popup ads.

It's no secret that Roku would never be profitable selling only Roku TVs and Roku media streamers along with other hardware. So they turned to what many others are doing to keep the lights on, selling advertisements on their platform.

With the latest Roku TV OS 9.2 software, there is something new that will appear from time to time, 3rd party popup ads.

These are ads that will only play during commercial breaks and they popup occasionally in a separate small picture-in-picture window.

Most viewers shouldn't find these advertisements too unbearable. And for how affordable these Roku TVs really are and with the huge amount of Free content available on the Roku platform. A few ads shouldn't be a deal breaker.

But if these ads bother you or seem a little intrusive, they can easily be turned off. But this will also turn off a feature on your Roku TV that you may actually really enjoy.

Roku Suggest

This a feature which tracks the shows you watch and offers up suggestions on other shows you may also enjoy watching on the Roku streaming platform from other channels.

The new interactive popup ads unfortunately are tied into this feature. So if you turn off the ads, it will also turn off the Roku Suggest feature as well.

Most users won't find these new popup ads on Roku TVs intrusive. And we recommend you leave this feature turned on.

By letting these ads play, it does helps support Roku so can keep bringing us great new media streamers and other hardware. Like their new Roku Smart Soundbar and Subwoofer which has the Roku media players built-in they just released.

How to Turn Off Popup Ads on Roku TVs

If you absolutely can't stand more ads, here is how to turn this feature off:

From your Roku home screen go to Settings / Privacy
Then Unselect - Use Information From TV Inputs
