Disney+ May Not Be Available on Fire TV

If you planned on watching Disney+ on a Fire TV, you may need to buy another media streamer

Disney vs Amazon ads

Amazon and Disney are squabbling over ads and Amazon wants a cut of the Action

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Disney+ may not be available on Fire TV devices. This is because Amazon want to place their ads on Disney properties like ESPN and DisneyNOW.

The good news for Disney+ subscribers is this service will be ad-free. And it will only cost $7/month or $70/year. For a while they ran a special early bird promotion and may do so again before the November 12 launch date. More details are here.

Amazon Charges App Developers 40% of Ad Inventory

Amazon is asking Disney to sell a rather large percentage of their ads on Disney apps on Fire TV devices which include ESPN and DisneyNow.

With the launch of their highly anticipated new Disney+ Streaming service. Amazon feels it has leverage by not allowing the app to be on their popular selling streamer. Which was only surpassed by Roku as the best-selling media streamer.

Disney Says No Deal

On the other hand, Disney feels their apps draw many viewers to Fire TV devices and are not about to lose 40% of ad revenue to Amazon.

So until they reach some sort of agreement, Fire TV owners may need to use another streamer to watch Disney+ when it is launched in November.

The good news is there are many better media streamer available than Fire TV. And Disney+ will be available on all these devices.

As The Streaming War Heat Up Expect More Battles to Follow

This is the latest squabble and things will only get more intense as more new services are coming online.

Cord cutters have had the luxury of low prices now for several years. And most won't open their wallets to much higher streaming costs anytime soon.

It's more likely they will hop from different streaming services to maximize their savings. This means we will probably see more discounts offered for longer one year commitments.
