A New Nvidia Shield Kodi Box Is On The Way

The New Nvidia Shield Kodi Box Will Contain an Enhanced Tegra X1 T214 Processor

The New 2019 Nvidia SHIELD with Faster Tegra X1 T214 GPU May Be The Best Nvidia SHIELD Kodi Box Yet!

Here's What We Know About the SHIELD Tegra X1 T214 So Far

When it comes to Android streamers, there is none better than a Nvidia SHIELD Kodi Box. It shreds through HD movies with Kodi like a hot knife goes through butter.

With a new Nvidia SHIELD around the corner, along with a new faster Tegra X1 T214 chipset it should make for a nice performance bump when watching movies with Kodi or playing games.

Both the original 2015, and also the newer 2017 models shared the same Tegra X1 T210 CPU. Now that the Tegra X1 T214 codenamed "Mariko" has been released, rumors are swirling that this is what will end up in the NEW revised SHIELD. Which has recently cleared the FCC for approval.

If you have heard that they were going to use the  new T210B01 chip in the SHIELD, this is just another name given to the T214. Both are one and the same and for the new SHIELD, Nvidia simply decided to call it a name which more closely resembled the original chip found in both prior models the Tegra X1 T210.

How The Original SHIELD T210 CPU Compares to the Newer T210B01

Here's the interesting part. The new T210B01 AKA T214 Chip uses a smaller 16nm vs 20nm fabrication process.

Not only does this new smaller GPU run faster, it also uses less power. And with that comes a cooler operating temperature which means you can speed up the video clock speed for better performance.

The original T210 SHIELD GPU can operate at a maximum clock speed of 1000 MHz. The newer T210B01 GPU does not max out until it reaches 1267 MHz which is a 25% improvement in Graphical Processor Unit Clock Speed.

Ram and CPU Type remains unchanged except the newer TB214 runs at a little slower clock speed.

There have been many waiting and are excited to see Nvidia's newest Shield TV box  finally released.

Hopefully we see these on the store shelves before the holiday season which kicks off mid to late October or early November.

And the rest of the hardware is every bit as impressive.

Tegra New T214 Vs Old T210 Chip Specs

Should You Buy a SHIELD TV Kodi Box Now Or Wait for the New One?

At this time, we are only a few months away. We recommend holding off on buying a new Nvidia SHIELD TV Box. And here is why.

Up to this point Nvidia has been great about releasing software updates across all their devices. Including both the 2015 and 2107 SHIELD which have always received the same updates.

Now if the new SHIELD TV comes out with the more modern chip, future Android updates may only be released for the newer T210B01 model. And the older models may no longer get any new updates.

We don't yet no for sure what Nvidia's plans are for the older original, and slightly updated SHIELD TV Boxes. Or if Nvidia will continue updating these models with Android TV OS updates like they have for the last 5 years.

If OS updates stop coming out for the first two models, this may be another good reason to buy a newer updated Nvidia SHIELD Kodi box that brings with it a 25% faster GPU processor to run your favorite Kodi repos.
