Android Q is the Tenth Major Android Operating System Software Update
Here's the Good, Bad and the Ugly of Android Q!
Now that the Android Version 10 otherwise known as Android Q is almost here let's have a look at what we can expect
Android Q or Android 10 is the tenth major update to the Android Operating system. Which is owned updated and maintained by Google.
And here are some things that will be different. And some features may be welcomed and then some may seem downright strange to those that have now become comfortable using Android Pie version 9.0.
While the final release of Android Q is not slated until some time in August. Beta 4 has been out for a while now so feedback has been trickling in from the Android community on some its new features.
Here are some of the things we can expect when the final version of Android Q is released in just a few months.
- Back Button Replaced by Gestures
- Foldable Phone Support
- System-Wide Dark Mode Theme
- New Android Q Privacy Enhancements
- 5G Ready
- Audio and Video Live Caption
- Face ID Support for Transactions and Login
- Support for HDR 10+
Following the iPhone's lead in this next version of Android, the back button will be replaced by a new gesture. If you're a fan of the back button, you will get need to get used to this new gesture control. And our best guess is before too long, the back button won't be missed much. Nothing remains the same forever, and this is just technology marching forward. With or without our approval.
The jury is still out on foldable phone screens. Early models broke rather quickly. But it's the latest fad so Android Q will be ready to support it when it becomes mainstream.
This is a feature that once you've used it you will quickly learn to love it. Dark mode is a lot easier on the eyes if using your phone or tablet late at night. And the darker screen won't have as much effect on your sleep cycle letting you catch some better ZZZs.
With new limits placed on files in external storage and only allowing apps to access device location when they are directly being used. Android Q places greater importance on user privacy.
Background apps are now restricted from launching unless granted permission from the user. And hardware along with the camera access is now more restricted.
As 5G is getting ready to roll out, phone developers are also gearing up for this faster broadband technology. And Android Q will now support 5G as well. 5G still has yet to be supported on iPhones but a new major iOS update will be forthcoming for them as well this fall. No doubt we will see some software and hardware updates supporting 5G as well.
This is a rather cool and welcome feature that transcribes the audio track from music of video files played. And this lets those with hearing impairments easily read what they can't hear in music and shows.
This is actually a welcome feature that if implemented properly it is almost seamless in daily use. Much easier than needing to place your finger on the fingerprint reader each time you want to access your Android phone or tablet.
Finally something nice for Android media streamers. HDR 10+ is a new dynamic range video format that adds another layer of scene information. This is meant to help TV's and also Smartphone screens play back HDR content even easier.
And Finally one last feature that will be pretty awesome is WiFi Performance modes. This lets the user have lower latency when gaming and during live during streaming.
As with any new software update, Android Q brings users of Android devices a slew of new features that will be welcomed by some and possibly hated by others.
