Cord Cutters could be the Big Winners When the Disney Plus Streaming Service Goes Live
Polygon reported today that Disney CEO Bob Iger said that Disney Plus would contain “the entire Disney motion picture library.” That means the iconic “Disney Vault” is effectively dead!
In the past the media giant has been rather selective about releasing movies from their vault which has an enormous volume of movies dating back to the 1920s.
This can have a huge impact on Netflix subscribers which has been suffering from a Disney content vacuum of sorts. That's because lately Disney has not been releasing any newer movie titles on the streaming giants and some of their films has left Netflix in preparation of launching their own streaming service later this year. Some popular Disney content will remain on Netflix and other media streaming services though.
All New Disney Movies released Will Be Shown Disney Plus Within A Year
Igor at today's St. Louis Investors meeting went on to say:
"The service, which I mentioned earlier is going to launch later in the year, is going to combine what we call library product, movies, and television, with a lot of original product as well, movies and television. And at some point fairly soon after launch it will house the entire Disney motion picture library, so the movies that you speak of that traditionally have been kept in a “vault” and brought out basically every few years will be on the service. And then, of course, we’re producing a number of original movies and original television shows as well that will be Disney-branded."
