Sonos May Soon Add Roku Voice Assistant
If you've ever listened to Sound Bar System demos at Best Buy, you may have at some point seen the Sonos line of audio speakers. Sonos builds really nice, higher end sound bars, surround sound speaker systems, and sub-woofers for home theaters.
What makes the Sonos Speaker System unique, is they can either connect wirelessly by WiFi or with an Ethernet cable to your home network Router and share audio to various parts of your home without any speaker wires.
They sound incredible and 1000X better than the tiny speakers built into large flat screen HD televisions.
One of the most enjoyable features of owning a Sonos PlayBar or Sonos One speaker system is the Sonos App that can be accessed from a PC, smartphone or tablet.

With the Sonos app, your TV can be off and your Sonos Play Bar or speakers can still be fully controlled and used as an Internet music player. Their app turns your speakers or sound bar into a network music system that lets you play songs and Internet Radio streams from Amazon Music, Pandora, Tidal, SiriusXM, Apple Music, Spotify, Google Music, and more.
CNET recently posted an article that said Sonos and Roku are currently in talks to bring Roku Connect and Entertainment Assistant Sonos Smart Speakers.
If this was to happen, it would be good for both Roku and Sonos who are both smaller niche players in a playground filled with industry giants like Amazon and Google who are fighting over control of Voice Assistant Artificial Intelligence (AI) swing set.
Roku's Voice Connect would users send voice commands through a nearby Sonos One speaker to control a Roku media streamer or Roku Smart TV.
The Sonos One already comes with Alexa on board, yet this is tied to Amazon and while it may let a user control a Fire TV, having the Roku Entertainment Assistant on board would make their speaker even more useful and give it a much wider universal appeal.
Roku is currently beta testing their new Voice Connect and also their Entertainment Assistant software which allows devices to pair easily and let users communicate to their Roku devices by voice. This will roll out later this year or early 2019.
While it is still too early to know for certain if this deal goes through, it could be a big win for Sonos and also for Roku if this does happen.
