#8 Fire TV - 12 Alternative Media Streamers to Roku

If you have your heart set on an alternative media streamer to Roku and are thinking about a Fire TV Stick, you owe it to yourself to look long and hard at a Fire TV instead.

Fire TV is Amazon's answer to Roku.

If you are looking for a media streamer from Amazon that supports Amazon content while it also (for the moment) supports 3rd party Android Apps like Kodi, the Fire TV is snappier version of the Fire TV Stick.

There are currently 2 versions of the Fire TV and one that's older which may be the best one of all.

Amazon recently released a new Fire TV Cube which is really an Alexa device that will also act as a media streamer.

Unfortunately, when Amazon released it, they did not add any more memory or CPU power to it versus their standard Fire TV model.

If you love watching most of your content from Amazon Prime Video, the Fire TV is an excellent choice.

If you are buying a Fire TV because it has the Amazon name and you want it because you heard your friends have Kodi and other Android apps side loaded to theirs, there are much better Android media streamers available.

If you have your heart set on a Fire TV it's really not a bad box hardware wise. If you can find a great deal on one second hand model, the 2015 model is also a good one to get. Many people still prefer it to the newer smaller pendant models.

If you want to get a newer or current Fire TV model and want full Alexa capabilities the Cube is not worth the added cost. You would be better off with an Echo Dot and a standalone $70 Pendant style Fire TV. You can purchase both the Echo Dot and Fire TV for $94 which costs less than the Fire TV Cube.

The current Fire TV offers a 40% improvement in performance over the Fire TV Stick. It features a Quad Core CPU, and a smoother more responsive experience. This alone is the primary reason we easily would recommend it instead of a Fire TV Stick.

If you want an even faster Android Box that offers plenty of RAM and top performance, check out the media streamer on the Next Page.
