#7 X99 Android Box - 12 Alternative Media Streamers to Roku

If you looking for an alternative media streamer to both Roku and Fire TV maybe it's time to step out of the walled garden and get a full blown Android box.

X99 is an Android performance monster.

We typically prefer Android TV boxes with Amlogic CPUs vs Rockchip but when we saw the Antutu score of 78,172 along with 4GB of DDR3 Ram on this box, we did a double take.

The X99 has upped the bar for Rockchip Android boxes once again.

While many people choose a Fire TV as either a first media streamer or an alternative to their Roku media streamer. It is still restricted.

Amazon only allows certain apps in their App Store, and they typically skew search results on their Fire TV boxes heavily in favor of their streaming content.

If you plan on watching your content from apps that are not in the Amazon or Google Play Android App Store and would like to own a completely unrestricted media player that does not require side-loading to use the apps you want an Android box may be a better choice for you.

The X99 is a current faster Android model that gives you something special. For a long time many Android box manufactures would only offer their boxes with 2GB of Ram. The X99 features double that amount and comes with 4GB of DDR3 Ram and a faster CPU that blows many other Android boxes away.

One of the disadvantages of buying a Chinese clone is support tends to be short-lived or non existent. Rather than providing constant updates when new versions of Android are released, they just release newer hardware.

Both Amazon and Nvidia provide their Shield with frequent updates. This means you could buy one of their boxes and typically end up owning it for much longer.

If you want an alternative media streamer to Roku that features hardware which is off the charts, be sure to click the Next Page button.

If you don't mind owning your Android streamer for short while and are happy to sell your box on eBay or Craigslist when something a little faster or better comes along, then you may just want to give the X99 Android box a try.
