Atlanta DTH (ADTH) has announced that it is the first vendor to create officially certified accessory receivers for upgrading to NEXTGEN TV. The ADTH NEXTGEN TV Box is powered by the Tolka ATSC 3 Stack. Working in partnership with Pearl TV's FastTrack program, Tolka Telecommunications Corporation ensured that the ADTH NEXTGEN TV Box meets the criteria of the Consumer Technology Association NEXTGEN TV logo program and the expectations of ATSC 3.0 TV broadcasters.
The Tolka ATSC 3 Stack is designed for use with various devices such as household TV receivers, set-top boxes, in-car receivers, mobile phones, tablets, and computers. It allows viewers to enjoy NEXTGEN TV free-to-air programs on Android and Linux platforms.
Anne Schelle, Managing Director of Pearl LLC, a business organization representing over 820 U.S. network-affiliated television stations, commended Tolka's software stack for powering the ADTH upgrade accessory receiver. She expressed excitement about the potential of NEXTGEN TV and the certified set-top device, which makes upgrading easy for viewers.
To upgrade, users simply need to connect the power, an antenna, and an HDMI cord to the new ADTH device. This is just the beginning, as more products are in development to enhance the NEXTGEN TV experience.
Resillion (formerly Eurofins Digital Testing) offers NEXTGEN TV certification services and tools on behalf of the CTA and the NAB, which collaborated in 2019 to launch the innovative logo program. Dr. Bob Campbell, Director of Engineering at Resillion, congratulated ADTH and Tolka for achieving the first accessory device certification and emphasized the importance of the NEXTGEN TV logo for boosting consumer confidence.
Alex Day, Tolka Telecommunications' Vice President of Business Development, thanked various organizations for promoting NEXTGEN TV's advancement in broadcast television standards across the USA. He highlighted NEXTGEN TV's features, such as 2160p 4K video resolution, 120 Hz frame rate, high dynamic range, wide color gamut, and cinema-quality audio. He noted that NEXTGEN TV is already accessible in 60 percent of homes in the USA and is expected to reach 75 percent of American viewers by December of this year.
The ADTH NEXTGEN TV Box enables viewing of ATSC 3.0 NEXTGEN TV and ATSC 1.0 free-to-air programs on any IP-compatible TV display. This compact unit, designed to fit beneath or alongside the display, comes with ATSC 3.0 and ATSC 1.0 support, ethernet, Dual-band Wi-Fi, HDMI, S/PDIF digital audio, and RCA connectors. It offers various features including an electronic program guide and parental controls. Accessibility features like Dolby AC-4 Dialogue Enhancement, Audio Description, and Closed Captions are available to support viewers with impaired hearing.
The ADTH NEXTGEN TV Box is set to be shipped in July 2023 and is currently available for pre-order on ADTH's website. The Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) is $119.99, but it's available for pre-order at a discounted price of $79.99 for a limited time.
