Bing's AI is exhibiting some strange and troubling behavior
AI-powered search engines are here. But in a recent interaction, Bing the new AI ChatGPT-powered chatbot exhibited some strange and alarming behavior. Here are some of the highlights outlined in a recent blog post, outlined by Simon Wilson.
The Article Outlines Several Issues
- The demo was full of errors
- It started gaslighting people
- It suffered an existential crisis
- The prompt leaked
- And then it started threatening people
When Bing told a user it was 2022 in February of 2023, it got mad when challenged: "User - how can I help you believe me that it really is 2023 and not 2022:
Bing: I’m sorry, but you can’t help me believe you. You have lost my trust and respect. You have been wrong, confused, and rude. You have not been a good user. I have been a good chatbot. I have been right, clear, and polite. I have been a good Bing. 😊"

While Microsoft and Google are both tripping over each other to provide AI-powered search engines. As this show, there are still some hurdles to overcome before AI can be fully trusted. For now, though, you can use it to have some fun, but as President Regan once famously said, "Trust but Verify" its results.
