UK SKY VIEWERS CHARGED FOR SKIPPING ADS

SKY TV Viewers in the UK will be charged for Skipping Past Advertisements

Sky wants subscribers to either watch ads or pay more each month

If you thought Netflix was bad charging their customers an extra fee each month for sharing their passwords. SKY TV viewers in the UK have been notified that if they skip through ads on live TV channels, the company plans on charging them an additional £5 each month.
Channels affected by this change per Express are ITV, Sky Atlantic, Sky Max, Channel 4, Channel 5, and MTV.

Sky Satellite Ad Fee Implemented

Watch our ads, or paying extra is the new order of business in the UK for SKY TV. Sky subscribers were notified of this policy change earlier this year and the company implemented the change on November 29, 2022.

UK SKY TV customers should reach out if currently not under contract to see if the company will waive this nonsensical fee.

Only certain Sky Customers Affected by This Change

Currently, only some SKY TV users are affected, Sky Q users can skip ads as much as they like and won't be charged an extra ad-skip fee. Glass TV owners are exempt for 18 months and then will be charged the additional monthly fee if they skip through any ads.
Anyone else who purchases a new Sky Glass television or a Stream box will need to pay the additional "Ad Skipping Add On pack" if planning on fast-forwarding through commercials.

Along with SKY, All4 and ITVX have also begun charging extra to skip through ads, so this very much seems to be a trend in the UK which hopefully stays there. US content providers have not signed onto this model at this time but it may be something that they are open to once they see what happens overseas.

Another parasitic fee, which means even larger profits for greedy cable companies and a further dent in subscribers' wallets will be sure to cause some backlash. As many consumers are already scrambling to make ends due to higher groceries and fuel costs, this may be the final straw that pushes some cord-cutters to return to cancel SKY TV service altogether and instead turn back towards illegal IPTV providers or free on-demand TV apps.
