HBO Max Discovery+ Merger Will Rebrand With a New Name

With the upcoming merger of two AT&T streaming services a name change is incoming

Disovery+ HBO Max Merger

HBO Max and Discovery+ are merging to provide subscribers an even larger library of content. Along with the merger, execs at the company are planning on a brand name change to protect HBO's premium brand name.

Unless at the last minute they decide to change it to something else. The name being strongly considered for the combined streaming service will simply be called "MAX."

What the Discovery HBO Max Merger Will Mean for Subscribers

The merger between two popular streaming services both owned by AT&T is supposed to happen in the spring of 2023. When it is released you'll be able to watch content from the Discovery+ library which includes videos content from the Discovery+ Channel, Animal Planet, TLC, HGTV, Food Network, CNN, and A&E (and others) in addition to HBO Max content which will make this streaming service one of the largest streaming TV content providers currently available.

A Larger Max Bundle Price Will Also Be Incoming

The merger will also bring a higher price for those who have only subscribed to HBO Max, or the Discovery+ streaming services individually. There has been no announcement yet on how much the new larger Max bundle will cost. Currently, they charge $14.99 for HBO Max and $6.99 for Discovery+ so a subscription price hovering around the $20 fee may not seem unreasonable. But it could end up costing even more. Be on the lookout for early subscriber deals. Many streaming companies to promote new offerings will give early subscribers great lifetime deals for subscribing. There have been some great deals offered on HBO Max. On Black Friday many streaming TV providers slashed prices and offered tremendous discounts.

Tom's Guide offers a more detailed breakdown of where the new cost may land with the Discover+ and HBO Max merger.

If AT&T can keep its price of Max in line with Netflix, the much larger library of content would make this streaming TV bundle a more attractive and competitive alternative. hopefully, moving it closer to the Top 3 Streaming Services with the most subscribers.
