YouTube Launched a Streaming TV App Store
Selling competing streaming channels has become profitable for big tech
YouTube now has its own streaming TV app store that lets you subscribe and manage multiple apps from a single payment source. Joining Roku, Apple, and Amazon, YouTube now can directly sell subscriptions to 30 plus content providers.
Popular streaming TV services available to subscribe to include Starz, Paramount+, Showtime, and many more. Notably missing is Netflix, because it would rather have users directly interact with its own app rather than use a 3rd party to sign-up new customers.
YouTube Primetime Channels
Primetime Channels is the name of YouTube's new channel app store. It will let U.S.A. streamers subscribe directly to popular streaming services like Showtime, AMC, NBA League Pass, and others directly from inside YouTube.
This allows for simple billing from a single provider instead of multiple streaming sites you subscribe to. It will also make browsing for new content easier.
The homepage will feature trailers and direct links where you'll see a green "Watch Now", which means you can click it to directly watch a show or movie. This opens up the app and the show or movie will play.
Pay to Watch lets you pay or subscribe to that particular streaming service.
Before you sign up for any 3rd party streaming TV service offered by YouTube, Amazon, or Roku. Check the price for the service directly from the provider's website. That's because some content providers are charging more for their service through these channel storefronts.
Signing up directly from the provider can save a few extra dollars every month. But you do lose the simplicity and convenience of signing up for multiple apps from a single source.
