Roku PlayOn Channel Was Just Removed From Roku

Roku PlayOn Channel Has Been Removed from the Roku Store

Why Would The PlayOn Roku Channel Get Removed?

PlayOn Roku Channel Removed

Some content providers may be unhappy that people could use the PlayOn app to skip past their commercials cutting into profits. When you try to access the Roku PlayOn channel a banner comes up with the message the channel has been removed.

It then directs you to a Web page at go.roku.com/channelremoved where Roku explains in more detail why a particular channel may no longer be on its platform.

Not having access to the PlayOn Roku channel is no longer as important as it once was. Because you can still use the PlayOn Cloud DVR app on your phone to save all the shows and movies you want to your device. Then you can use AirPlay, Mirroring, or Casting and watch them directly on your TV with Roku or Apple TV.

Mirroring also works fantastic for browsing content that's on the Internet and playing it back on your TV from your phone with AirPlay or Mirroring. This is the way to do this now on Roku since they removed private channels and are more strictly controlling apps you can install from the Channel Store.

For full instructions on how to use Casting, AirPlay, and Mirroring on Roku, full step-by-step instructions are here.

About PlayOn Cloud

PlayOn Cloud is a DVR app you use on a phone or tablet. It lets you record shows from popular streaming services like Netflix,  HBO Max, and others that you subscribe to and also some free channels as well like Pluto TV, Tubi TV, and The Roku Channel.

Credit packages purchased in bulk from PlayOn are pretty inexpensive. And then each time you record a show or movie to the PlayOn Cloud it will cost a single credit per movie or episode. Recordings made in HD cost 2 credits.

After a 7/days recordings are automatically deleted from the cloud. So if you want to keep any of your recorded shows or movies longer, you need to download them to your phone or tablet. But you can watch your recording either directly from the cloud through the PlayOn App.

Once downloaded, your recordings can also be watched directly on your device or by using AirPlay or Casting to watch them right on your big screen TV with your Roku, Android, or Apple TV media player.

Try PlayOn and Get Free Credits

Get 7 Free PlayOn Cloud Recording Credits

When you join PlayOn Cloud they give you 7 credits free to try their DVR service. This is especially handy when you may not have time to watch a TV series that is leaving your favorite streaming service. It's also very handy to use when signing up for free trials.

This way you can record and download an unlimited amount of content during your free trial, and watch it long after your free trial has expired. That's a great way to extend your free trial indefinitely.

Just be sure to purchase a bulk PlayOn Cloud credit pack. Because the more credits you buy at a time, the cheaper it is to record content to the cloud.
So while the PlayOn Channel may have been removed from Roku, this does not mean you can't keep using it to save and watch great content with your favorite media streamer.
