When it comes to Android Streamers there is a wide range of models to choose from. From a $20 ONN Walmart model to an Nvidia SHIELD which can cost up to $200, and at the top-end we have Zidoo which takes Android video playback to the next level. The Z9X is their entry model, but it still blows away Nvidia and pretty much everything else when it comes to video and sound quality.
Nvidia SHIELD
The Nvidia SHIELD was King of the hill when it came to streaming on Android for many years. But it's getting older and a bit outdated now. With no new major hardware updates in several years now, it has been surpassed by Zidoo Z9X which is now the flagship Android media streamer.
The SHIELD TV Streamer is still a perfectly capable box and will be more than adequate for most users. And if you don't need cutting-edge tech for most cord cutters it works very well. And especially if you plan on streaming from major streaming services this is the box you want.
A new model from Nvidia with faster hardware is not due out until later in 2022 or in 2023. If rumors are to be believed, the new Nvidia SHIELD will feature a Tegra Orín SoC which includes Ampere GPU architecture, a CPU with at least 6 core Arm Cortex-A78AE (Hercules) v8.2 64-bit, and less than 8GB ram memory.
Once it launches this could once again place the SHIELD out in front of a crowded field of Android TV media streaming boxes.
Zidoo Z9X
If you love watching Blueray movies and have a huge collection ripped and stored on a NAS or other network drive, this just may be the best streaming device you can buy.
