Local Streaming Content Provider LocalBTV is Unique, But Will it Last?

LocalBTV Free Local Channels and DVR

We have seen this played out before with local streaming services like Aereo, and Locast which repackaged broadcast signals and then streamed them over the Internet. Both were shut down promptly when content providers sued for unauthorized use and retransmission of their signals without consent.

Now LocalBTV is here and doing the same thing but this time they asked and were given permission by their content providers to stream their signal. Notably missing from their channel lineup though are the major networks which include CBS, FOX, ABC, and NBC.

Although they are working on trying to add these local Network TV channels, until they come up with enough money to pay them, it probably won't happen anytime soon.

Where is LocalBTV Available

Currently available in 23 local markets they now offer 30 to 40 Local TV channels, with more on the way. This can vary depending on which market you are in. The company also currently has plans to reach 100 Local television markets by the end of 2022.

Here are the markets where you can currently watch local channels on LocalBTV. Check this page for updates or to see if any new markets have been added.

How Much Does It Cost?

Currently, there is no fee to sign-up. Although they are looking to inject ads into the content, it looks like this may be the primary revenue source for this app.
To get started just enter your zip code. If they don't have service available in your area a message pops up on the screen giving you the option to be notified by email if they expand into your market.
If you enter the Zip code of one of the markets they are in you can proceed to the sign-up page. Once signed up, download their channel or app on Roku, Apple TV, Fire TV, or Android and enjoy free live local TV.
Note: If you try to watch from a location other than your registered Zip code, the content will be blocked. One way to get around this is to use a VPN, and use a VPN server located in the same city where you want to watch the local content from.

How to Watch LocalBTV

You can add their Roku Channel here to watch on Roku, Apple App, and their Android App. Or stream directly from a phone or tablet.

To find channels available to watch, visit their Markets page and click on a market near you or one you would be interested in watching to see available channels.

FREE Cloud DVR Included

Another nice thing about using the LocalBTV app is you can record, pause and rewind live TV. Their Cloud DVR is included and there is no charge for this either. Just find something on their Grid Guide and the app will record it for you to watch on your schedule.

How to Watch Major Free Local TV Channels in Your Area

The best way to watch all local channels in your zip code is from an antenna. The right antenna can provide you with all the major networks, and many local smaller channels as well. And they won't be compressed like on satellite or cable so you can watch them in full 1080p HD.
