Three Money Saving Hacks for Cordcutting
With the price of everything including cordcutting getting more expensive, this can help shave some of the cost!
We are living in tough times, and even cordcutters who already are saving a bundle compared to their cable TV-loving cousins are feeling the pain.
But this does not mean we just need to sit back and take it. Instead, we can use these clever hacks to reduce our monthly streaming budget. And use the money we save for more important things like food and gas.
Tip One - You Don't Need a 500Mbps Internet Connection for Streaming
Most households pay for too much broadband speed. Many cable companies like to upsell their Internet broadband because this means more money in their pockets, and less in yours every month.
A typical home with a single adult or couple could easily get by with a 15 to 25 Mbps Internet connection. Unless you have a family of 4 or more adults all streaming 4K UHD content simutaniously, then a 100Mbps connection would be more appropriate.
Most cable companies who have a fiber network are offering sppeds at least 100Mbps at a minmum. But their more expensive plans can go as fast as 500 to 1Gbps. But they do charge a premium for these.
So don't let some fast talking sales rep try to talk you into paying for more Interent broadband than your really need. Especially if all you do is browse the web, write emails and stream movies and TV shows.
Tip Two - Make Use of Free Streaming Services Included By Other Companies
Check with your credit card companies, cell phone carrier, and even your broadband provider for any streaming channels already included or offered with your plan.
Some cellular companies will throw in a free subscription to popular streaming sites which can save you money each month. Here are six phone plans that include a free streaming service.
Tip Three - Check Out The Free Streaming Channels Some are Quite Good
Free streaming sites have exploded in recent years. Now we have at least a half dozen or more that are quite good and offer an excellent value for no money. The biggest downside is they all generate revenue from ads. But that's why they are free.
If you have more free time than money. This may be an excellent way to cut down on your streaming TV budget. One of the most annoying thing about the ads though is the lack of inventory.
This sometimes means watching the same crazy ad over and over until you want to scream. But Free is Free, and some sites do a much better job with less intrusive ads than others. So keep trying all the free streaming sites until you find one that fits your needs.
