Biggest Reason Cord Cutters Are Canceling Streaming Services

Biggest Reason Cord Cutters Canceling Streaming Services

Cord Cutters Claim the Main Reason For Canceling their Streaming TV subscriptions is because of Price Increases

Canceling expensive streaming services

We are living in tough times, and cord cutters like everyone are feeling the pain. And expensive streaming services are among the first thing on the chopping block when it comes to cost cutting measures.

Consumers Opting for Free Streaming Channels

With the cost of many streaming services going ever higher over the last few years, and more content providers cashing in by offering their own streaming service. Cord-cutting is no longer as cheap or as easy as it once was.

Early on you could subscribe to Netflix for $7 or $8 a month and watch unlimited content from many major studios. Unfortunatly, this is no longer true. Once the straming TV landscape exploded with many content providers hosting their own streaming services, they pulled much of this great content from Netflix.

This did not stop Netflix from rasing prices though, so today you get to watch a lot less contetn, and pay a lot more instead. With the price of a 4K Netflix subscription now approaching $20, and 1080P close to $16 a month. Many consumers have had enough.

The increased cost of streaming is the number one reason many are simply canceling their service and turning to other sources for watching TV.

Here is What Cord Cutters are Turning to Instead

1. FREE TV Channels - These are now more popular than ever. And some free streaming sites offer content that is similar to what you find on paid streaming channels. With the only difference being ads. When prices were low and content plentiful, most cord-cutters were perfectly happy to fork over monthly payments for a subscription.

Now they need this money to put food on the table and gas in their cars. So nonessential goods like streaming TV subscriptions are often the first to take a hit. Expensive streaming services like Netflix will continue to see their subscriber numbers fall in the foreseeable future.

2. Lower Cost Streaming TV Alternatives - While Netflix has become quite expensive for 4K, you can subscribe to Apple TV+ which is only $4.99/month. And this includes 4K! And while Netflix is cracking down on account sharing, AppleTV+ can be shared with 5 other individuals. This along with new original content makes it seem like a bargain in comparison.

And it also costs less than Hulu with ads, ($5.99/MONTH) and Disney+ ($7.99/MONtH) which makes it seem like a bargain.

3. PLEX and Kodi - Higher streaming costs and less content have also enticed many cord-cutters back to sharing content on Plex and once again adding Kodi and other apps on their Fire TV and Android media players and televisions.

This is unfortunate because when streaming was cheaper and you could find almost everyone's content on Netflix. Piracy took a big downturn as it was easier to subscribe and pay a reasonable monthly fee. Since this is no longer the case, pirate TV apps are once again becoming a lot more popular.

Now is a great time for content providers to pool their resources

In our current economy, we can expect more people to drop streaming TV services. This will have a chilling effect on the earnings of many streaming TV providers. And it could even cause some to call it quits. Like CNN did when their streaming news channel failed to entice cord-cutters. Their streaming service did not even last a month before they pulled the plug.

Earning a little bit of money is better than no earnings at all. So if many streaming services want to survive these tough economic times. Sharing their content on a single platform may be the best way. One streaming service offering the content of many for an affordable monthly cost that can be shared with several users may just be the best way forward.

But will the content providers have enough sense to implement this? Before their time is up, and they end up canceled due to lack of interest.
