How Streaming Add-On Channels Differ vs Individual Streaming Apps

Streaming add-on channels that are typically offered as additional premium content by major streaming companies like Roku, Apple, and Amazon sometimes vary from the same apps offered individually. How you subscribe can make a difference in how you pay for the app and more.
Subscribing to Bundled Add-On Channels
Amazon offers additional premium streaming TV channels on top of its Amazon Prime Video subscription. These can be selected individually and added to your account. This typically still gives you access to the same content had you subscribed through the channel or app's website.
The cost for additional streaming channels are all billed together at once from media streamer providers like Amazon, Roku, or Apple TV.
An add-on channel's content is integrated into the interface, so it's easily accessible along with the rest of the content available on Apple TV, Roku, and Amazon Prime. Just needing to deal with one payment vs several makes it much easier and this is a primary benefit of signing up for individual channels and apps through a third party.
Subscribing to Standalone Streaming Apps
While subscribing to apps individually from their website makes the billing process more complicated. Especially, if you subscribe to multiple streaming services.
Sometimes content aggregators who bundle additional channels and apps will offer limited-time discounts on additional channels. While these promotions vary, when available they can save you some money.
Occasionally, certain streaming apps share their own special promotions that are only available if signed up for directly on their website. Some content providers like Netflix don't even offer their channel or app as part of an extended channel package and require users to sign up directly from their site and are also billed directly.
This gives them a slightly higher per month profit ratio. Because 3rd party billing actually costs the content providers an additional fee. Channel subscribers typically won't notice any difference in price. But this is not always true, so it's best to check both places before handing over your credit card to subscribe.
Additional premium video channels can even include a mix of free and premium content that requires a subscription. A few channels like Freevee which previously was IMDb, and The Roku Channel are completely free. The trade-off is these channels are fully advertiser supported so you will need to watch some ads.
Add-On Amazon Prime Video Channels
These additional premium subscription channels can be added through Amazon to consolidate your billing. Better discounts and offers can sometimes be found by subscribing to the content provider directly. Notably missing from this large collection of channels is HBO Max. Like Netflix, you will need to visit their website and pay them directly for their premium content.
