A New tvOS 15.3 Update is Now Available for Apple TV HD & 4K

Apple just pushed out another software update tvOS 15.3 for their Apple TV 4K and HD models

New update addresses minor software bug fixes to make the platform even more stable

Apple TV tvOS Update

To be honest, the more we use our Apple TV 4K media streamer, the more it keeps growing on us every day. We dumped our first generation Apple TV many years ago when we switched to Roku back when you could stream all kinds of fun stuff on private channels without all the ads.

In the early days, a Jail Broken Apple TV worked amazingly well for XBMC, which was the precursor to KODI. Now the idea of, jail breaking a $200 4K Apple TV no longer has the same appeal it once did.

But watching all kinds of FREE legal content on Apple TV today from tons of streaming sources that were not available back then is now every bit as satisfying. And the Apple TV hardware, which has improved a lot through several generations, is now second to none. The only media streamer that comes even close to touching it is a Nvidia SHIELD. Which after using the same processor for the last five years, is ready for a hardware refresh.

It's kind of ironic that it took ten years to finally circle back to an Apple TV 4K, which is now once again one of our favortie media streamers.

Besides, the Hardware tvOS makes an Apple TV Rock as a Media Streamer

Anyone that's ever used an iPhone or iPad will immediately feel at home using an Apple TV. It's ridiculously, intuitive and easy to use. And the primary reason for this is their tvOS.

Their operating is very polished and Android in comparison while also quite nice, is still a little rougher around the edges. But Android has something else going for it which is full access to any side loaded app you want.
Apple still has an iron tight grasp on the apps it allows on their platform through their app store. So even though as yet, side loading apps is not an option for an Apple TV. Several court cases currently in progress may ultimately change this.
While you will no longer find a single IPTV channel in the Roku Channel Store, the Apple App Store now has TEN IPTV apps listed in their App Store you can download and install on an Apple TV.

And if you have a developer account, you can install and use KODI on an Apple TV as well. Apple recently announced private apps that can only be accessed through a shared link. But they still need to be approved and certified so don't get too excited about this new feature just yet.

Then there is Airplay, which works amazingly well on an Apple TV to cast movies playing from a browser on an iPhone or iPad to your Apple TV. So you can watch them on a large screen TV in HD and 4K. You can also use Airplay to play movies downloaded to your device or you can cast content from the Cloud with PlayOn or downloaded from your mobile devices.

Airplay works seamlessly, and no other media streamer does it better. And now that KODI has become more and more bloated with each update, casting is a quicker and easier way to watch the content you want without App Store restrictions. That is as long as the content is encoded in an Apple friendly, compatible format. Which fortunately most content found online today already is.
